Certification is the "mark of excellence" that you carry with you everywhere you go.

Complete details can be found on the IAAP website (www.iaap-hq.org) under "Professional Certification." New candidates will find the current Certification Application Packet on the web at www.iaap-hq.org/Cert/CertAppPacket.pdf. Eligible retake candidates were mailed a personalized Registration Form earlier this month. Don't delay. Apply to earn the top professional ratings for administrative professionals

Certification enhances career success through:

  • Job Advancement - Certification gives you a competitive edge for promotion and hiring.
  • Professional Skills - You will learn more about office operations and build your skills by studying for and taking the CPS® or CAP® exam.
  • Higher Salary Possibilities - IAAP surveys show that CPS and CAP holders earn an average of $2,228 more per year than those who do not have certification.
  • Esteem - Attaining certification demonstrates to your employer and yourself that you are committed as a professional.
  • College Credit - Many college and universities offer course credit for studying for and passing the CPS or CAP exams.

You may apply to take the CPS or CAP exam if you have completed two to four years experience (determined by educational background) as an administrative professional in the past 15 years.

The CPS exam is a one-day exam, with three parts.  The CAP exam is a one and one-half day exam, with four parts.

Parts 1-3 CPS and CAP exams cover:

  • Office Systems & Technology
  • Office Administration
  • Management

Part 4 of the CAP exam covers:

  • Advanced Organizational Management

More than 60,000 administrative professionals have attained the CPS designation.  The CAP rating which was first administered in May 2001 has been achieved by nearly 2,000 individuals.

CPS and CAP holders are required to recertify every five years.  This helps assure maintenance of professional competency and in keeping pace with changes in the workplace.
